The Dos and Don’ts of greenscreens.
Hi there, We often get asked by clients what to wear for their video shoots with us. It's a very good question to ask because there are a few clothing items and choices that do not mix with green screen-based videos.
Here is a quick list of what NOT to wear as well as some general tips when visiting our green screen studio.
1. Do not wear Green! It’s best to avoid any and all green no matter the shade or variations in color– never ever wear green anything.
2. Patterns are not a good idea either and I am talking about Checkered, tartan, fine pinstripes, and all other fancy patterns. In the video, patterns begin to flicker on camera, which becomes very distracting for the viewer.
3. Glasses. If you wear glasses the lights can sometimes reflect on the lenses of your glasses, which can become an issue in the final video. If you wear glasses and don’t have contact lenses, don’t worry, we can try to work around this but for the best results, it’s best to avoid wearing them if at all possible.
4. Frizzy hair. If you have wild unruly hair then you can look like you have green highlights in your hair. Then We end up losing some of your hair when we try to take the green out! If you have unruly hair, tie it up or try to use hair spray to keep it down for the best results.
5. Dresses. We use lapel microphones in our studio, so if you wear a dress we’ll have nowhere to secure the microphone pack to. We’d usually use a belt loop or inside pockets for this. If you must wear a dress then we will break out a high-tech solution to the problem: we’ll gaffer tape it to the stool.
6. Makeup. It’s a good idea to wear a bit of foundation for best results and yes I am talking to you men as well! Without it, the lights can make you look like a ghost.
7. Silver and gold Jewelry. Some jewelry can be worn, but the lighting in our studio tends to reflect off silver and gold jewelry the most. This can be quite distracting for the viewer and create a problem if the color of the reflection is green. So go lightly on the jewelry.
8. Lastly is a simile. So Turn that frown upside down, because nothing looks better on camera than a smile.
